Designer, 1974-1988

Don Shepherd

Don Shepherd held the longest tenure as Designer at Blenko in its history, and came to the position after a renowned career in independent glass design — with his lines DAS Designs and Glass America, for instance. His greatest contribution to Design at Blenko is likely the tremendous archive of moulds he created at the factory and left to it after his passing. Notably, Shepherd was the first designer (after JP Meyer’s mushrooms) to use frit to great effect, in his Snowdrift and Rock lines. His forms are notably organic and curvy and liquid, and the breadth of his ideas incredible - from owls to his delightful penguins to amorphous floor decanters, his work expresses all kinds of movement in glass.

Tour

We really enjoyed the factory tour. Amazing art. The paper bag vase is beautiful and was a birthday gift for my wife, as was the tour. She is a collector of glassware and she loves everything Blenko. We would highly recommend the tour to all glass aficionados. Also, our guise was excellent. Kudos to all and thank you.

Beautiful vase

I gave the large paper bag vase to my daughter and she loved it!
I will say it was shown as turquoise but is a clear, but beautiful blue.

It was more wine color than tangerine. Even when the light was on it there was only a slight hue of a lighter color. Not like the photo
