Employee Spotlight: Joseph Thayer – Hot Shop
Since joining us in October of 2023, Joseph Thayer has made it clear he’s not one to stand still for long. Around here, he’s tried his hand at just about everything, and if there’s something new to learn, chances are he’s already asking how.
Thayer got his start carrying in and holding molds, as everyone does on the hot shop, but it didn’t take long for him to find his rhythm. From heating in and gathering to testing the waters in blowing and finishing, he’s steadily building a well-rounded skillset and a strong understanding of the craft.
Most recently, Thayer spent several months working alongside Mr. James Woodson as an assistant for our Make Your Own experience, where he helped guide guests through the magic of glassmaking. You may have also spotted him out on the road with our mobile unit since he’s often one of the first to volunteer, always ready to represent what we do beyond our walls.
Back in the shop, Thayer continues to jump in wherever he’s needed, from assisting with MYO experiences to occasionally running a one-man operation producing stoppers and floats. His versatility and willingness to step up have made him a reliable presence across the board. Even when he’s off the clock, he’s still putting in the work. Thayer regularly travels to Columbus to train with one of our Artisans, Dan Schreiber, further sharpening his skills and deepening his commitment to the craft.
Whether in the shop, on the road, or learning on his own time, Joe’s dedication speaks for itself, and we can’t see how loud he will get!
