Don Shepherd held the longest tenure as Designer at Blenko in its history, and came to the position after a renowned career in independent glass design — with his lines DAS Designs and Glass America, for instance. His greatest contribution to Design at Blenko is likely the tremendous archive of moulds he created at the factory and left to it after his passing. Notably, Shepherd was the first designer (after JP Meyer’s mushrooms) to use frit to great effect, in his Snowdrift and Rock lines. His forms are notably organic and curvy and liquid, and the breadth of his ideas incredible - from owls to his delightful penguins to amorphous floor decanters, his work expresses all kinds of movement in glass.
