6141 Star Bowl - Malachite

Sale price$48.00
Color: 6141 Star Bowl - Malachite

This is not the first time we’ve been tempted to bring back this clean, classic spinware mould from our catalog archives. The 6141 – also known as the 9801 – is a beautiful, seven-pointed star bowl that flares out in organic, unique rounded points. Around the factory we call it the Star or the Crown bowl because of the beautiful flare and organic asymmetries. Perfect for fruit, decor, salad – you name it, this bowl is a real touch of midcentury space age glamor for your home.

Approximately 3½” wide at base and 6½”-7”H, (each may vary slightly due to the handmade process)

*Bowls may have mould marks or slight lap lines in the glass, as pictured.

Wayne Husted

Wayne Husted was the second of Blenko’s storied Big Four designers – and the second in a row to come to Blenko from Alfred University and NY State’s School of Ceramics, where he studied ceramics and design. Husted had very little experience with glass before coming to Blenko to replace another Alfred graduate, Winslow Anderson. With some few exceptions, most of the wares in the 1953-1962 catalogs are Husted’s designs for Blenko – and his design tenure marked a period of wild and continuous experimentation with form, shape, and finishing. His works in glass were often counterintuitive and difficult to make – but undeniably magical and compelling in their finished forms. Whether it’s his heavily-prunted 597 bowls, or his teapot decanters, or his whimsical bird decanters, Husted’s work is celebrated and deeply collectible. Husted was essentially the first designer at Blenko to make architectural-scale glass – floor decanters with tall topping stoppers that came across the finish line at more than two feet tall. During - and after - his time at Blenko, Husted was a prolific designer for other glass companies and design firms.

Almost too beautiful to use

My grandson and I watched the video of the star bowl being made, he loved it so much I had to order it. The deep green color is absolutely stunning. We love the texture on the outside from the wood grain on the mold. Thinking about ordering another one in blue now.

Absolutely gorgeous!

My husband stopped at Blenko in Milton WV while traveling and bought this malachite Star Bowl in the gift shop as a surprise for me. I love it! The deep green color is beautiful, especially when the sun hits it. Shout out to the staff in the gift shop for the excellent packing and use of all recyclable materials.
