One of the first designs from Blenko Guest Designer for 2024, Phil Vinson, these Asteroid Carafes are the beautifully organic result of an intricate and artistic process of metal-mould-making and glassworking. For the mould, dozens of steel hemispheres and ball bearings of seven different sizes come together to create the cratered ‘Asteroid’ surface that makes this carafe a textural stunner. The surface of the moon comes alive on the outside of the glass. And your eyes aren’t fooling you! Each of these pieces comes crashing to your counter with a little lean – the better to catch its meteoritic reference charmingly in its organic angle and kick. In working the hot glass, each piece is unique – the result of swinging the hot vase and pulling its delicately lipped spout, handmaking a slightly unique shape and form each time. The simple pour spout is perfect for libations, but the piece is tailor made to crash onto your mantle and take center stage. Intergalactic, planetary – these carafes are out of this world.
