Wayne Husted

Wayne Husted was the second of Blenko’s storied Big Four designers – and the second in a row to come to Blenko from Alfred University and NY State’s School of Ceramics, where he studied ceramics and design. Husted had very little experience with glass before coming to Blenko to replace another Alfred graduate, Winslow Anderson. With some few exceptions, most of the wares in the 1953-1962 catalogs are Husted’s designs for Blenko – and his design tenure marked a period of wild and continuous experimentation with form, shape, and finishing. His works in glass were often counterintuitive and difficult to make – but undeniably magical and compelling in their finished forms. Whether it’s his heavily-prunted 597 bowls, or his teapot decanters, or his whimsical bird decanters, Husted’s work is celebrated and deeply collectible. Husted was essentially the first designer at Blenko to make architectural-scale glass – floor decanters with tall topping stoppers that came across the finish line at more than two feet tall. During - and after - his time at Blenko, Husted was a prolific designer for other glass companies and design firms.

This has so much more color variations than the picture shows. I absolutely love it!

Beautiful bud vase

The graduated colors in this vase are beautiful..going from blue at the base to tangerine and red at the top. The web picture looked more green throughout and I really wanted green but still happy with what I received

Small Strata Block Bud Vase - Summer Storm

I decided to splurge and get the summer storm strata vase. It took the six weeks, but that was explained when I purchased it so I was ok with that. I received two courtesy emails during that period apologizing for the delays. When my vase arrived - I was so excited to open it, however it was not summer storm. I understand there is some level of variance to be expected in a hand made item, but this was a mostly dark red vase, somewhat orange toward the very bottom. I figured it must be the tangerine sent by mistake. I sent an email with a picture and it was agreed this was indeed the tangerine. I was offered an exchange or refund. To get a replacement, I would have to wait again as they confirmed there were no strata vases scheduled in the near future. I almost waited, but read several reviews on the site that the summer storm color (which I loved) didn’t appear like the pictures, so rather than have another long wait and maybe not have it close to the pictures I got a refund. The customer service person was very nice and the refund was sent the same day the vase was received. It was overall very disappointing because I was so excited to be getting a vase from Blenko.

One of the reasons I chose it was the name!

This vase is beautiful. I have an orange living room rug and green plants around so it complements them beautifully. It's on a plant stand in the window so I can enjoy the beautiful colors. Wish it was a bit bigger though.
