WVAFSP 988 Suncatcher - Turquoise

In June, 2023, Blenko Glass Company partnered with a vital state resource, the West Virginia chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to produce a suncatcher with America’s new mental health crisis hotline number (988) on it, as well as the lifering logo of the organization, in an eye-catching Turquoise.

This cause was brought to us by one of our own employees, Terry Rakes, our Hot Shop Scheduler and Supervisor, and to raise money, Blenko Glass Company is auctioning a very limited edition 384 Water Bottle in Turquoise, and a Cobalt mini 384 water bottle bank with the Terry Rakes Fan Club logo on our auction page. Winners of the auction will also receive a lifetime membership in the Terry Rakes Fan Club, whose headquarters are located in Milton, WV, at the Blenko Glass Company that is so fond of Mr. Rakes - see his Employee Spotlight here for all he does for us. 

In a creative project, Blenko employees were given these suncatchers emblazoned with the AFSP lifering logo and 988 hotline number, and encouraged to hang them for free in public locations around Milton, WV, and the tristate area, in an endeavor to bring greater public awareness to mental health struggles and suicidality, the tenth-leading cause of death in the US - and the second leading cause of death in WV for people aged 10-34. These photos will be posted periodically to Blenko’s social media, and we encourage all of our customers to participate in the project themselves. Whereas much of Blenko’s glass is distinctly collectible, we want our customers to think of this as the anti-collectible – a piece of glass to give away in service of the greater good. Buyers of the 988 suncatcher in Turquoise can know that 50% of the purchase goes directly to WVAFSP, the remaining offsetting labor and production costs.

As a suncatcher or window ornament these are striking. 4” in diameter. Each is slightly different due to the handmade process.

Stand not included. We recommend using fishing line or another clear filament thread to hang your window decoration to best suit your desired look.
